A modern travel platform
built for freedom, discovery,
and traveler-designed journeys.

Insight
The Australian travel industry was still largely built around brick-and-mortar agencies, while consumer behavior had already shifted to digital discovery and social media inspiration. We brought that shift.
Rethinking the system
Instead of relying on physical storefronts and traditional travel agent sales channels, we designed Travel Democracy as a fully digital travel agency built around social discovery and direct online conversion. Instagram became our primary marketing and sales engine, where travelers were already discovering destinations and planning their next trip.
We built a distributed network of micro-influencers across Australia and New Zealand who shared authentic travel content and experiences from Fiji. Rather than relying on a few large influencers, we turned everyday travelers into brand advocates, creating a scalable content ecosystem that continuously generated new demand.
Community Driven Growth
The micro-influencer strategy created a self-reinforcing growth engine. Instead of relying on expensive advertising or celebrity endorsements, everyday travelers became storytellers for the brand. This decentralized network of creators generated a steady flow of authentic travel content that continually fed demand.

Resilience isn’t about avoiding collapse, it's building the capacity to start again
Lesson
As the business gained momentum and was on track for $4M+ in year-two revenue, COVID-19 brought global travel to a standstill. Australia’s borders remained closed for over two years, effectively shutting down the company’s core market and halting operations entirely.
While the outcome was abrupt, the experience was formative. It instilled a deep understanding of external risk, timing, and resilience, shaping a more disciplined, adaptable approach to building and scaling companies under uncertainty.
